free culture…what is the free and what is the culture?
As I said Lessig is a very powerful writer–he knows how to weave a narrative and make HIS argument seem natural and right! There is very much to agree with in Lessig in relation to the history and abuse of copyright and/or intellectual property rights regimes writ large. My questions relate to what and who are left out of BOTH his historical account of copyright and especially the public domain and what and who are erased in his insistence on culture aligned with music, software and other western-and market-based industries and products. In lieu of specific questions I am going to suggest you read (or skim/gut) my article (gonedigital) that digs into these issues.
